A laser machine concentrates light into a beam a fraction of a millimetre wide. At the focal point the energy density is high enough to melt or vaporise metal instantly — so the tool never touches the part, never blunts, and never needs regrinding.
In a fiber laser the light is amplified inside a doped optical fibre. That design is compact, efficient, and needs far less maintenance than the older CO2 tube it replaced in most metal work.
The cutting head focuses the beam to a spot of roughly 0.1–0.4 mm. Spot size and focal position decide how narrow the kerf is and how clean the edge comes out.
Oxygen, nitrogen or compressed air blows the molten material out of the kerf. The gas choice changes edge quality, cutting speed, and running cost at the same time.
Drives and control software move the head along the contour. Acceleration and positioning accuracy decide how the machine performs on small detail and on long production runs.
